Cafés of Barcelona
An amateur analysis of the coffee shops in Barcelona
Introduction
Ever since I made the first post about cafes in Williamsburg BK I’ve been wanting to make one for Barcelona. I first came to the city over 4 years ago in 2022 just as I was leaving my corporate job at Capital One (I put in my two week literally the day after arriving back to Richmond, VA from Barcelona) to start my big leap into music-tech at Audius and since then this place has become my second home. I’ve already written a bit about Barcelona in my older post “Per què Barcelona és la capital del Music Tech a Europe?” which you can translate to English if you don’t want to try and read the Catalan. Just like in the States, I mostly work out of cafés and bars but of course there’s a bit of a cultural difference where many places aren’t super commendating to remote workers thus I’m a bit more strict about which places I do “online” work (i.e. something involving a laptop) and “offline” work (i.e. reading a book, sketching on paper, etc.). I don’t necessarily see this as a limitation because sometimes it can b a bit freeing to walk somewhere where you know you won’t be distracted or tempted to pull out your laptop for “a quick fix”. Am I missing any? Is there something important I’m not judging them on? Let me know. I’m especially interested in places with good coffee, good coworking, or good energy for ideating offline.
